A year ago on Aug 6th, I established my LLC - 3 months before going public (which I consider its real bday). But this date is such a huge milestone for me because of what it stands for - I wasn’t ready to start my own business, I still didn’t know if I was doing the right thing venturing out on my own or if I should just stick with working in an outpatient corporate clinic.
But I was burnt out from working long hours and wanted to stand on my own feet. I wanted to treat my patients better than they were before in a way that was more convenient and accessible for them - a concierge practice that accepts insurance! And that’s the thing with entrepreneurship - it’s one of the most difficult things you’ll ever do, it takes a long time to solidify yourself as a leader in your community, but you’re doing what you love and on your own terms.
So my advice to you today is - what’s stopping you from doing what you love to do? Find the people who are already where you want to be and use them as inspiration to get you there!
Did you know you can also get an annual checkup from your physical therapist? Most people don’t go to their PCP on a yearly basis, and a physical therapist is a great liason for you to have a full body musculoskeletal assessment.
Here’s what you'll get during your 60min checkup:
1.Reviewing the mobility and strength of each of your joints
2.Reviewing any pain or tightness you are experiencing
3.Provide corrective exercises to address any of your physical needs
4.Provide progressions of your current exercise program
5.Discuss any fitness goals you have that you want to accomplish
6.BONUS: since I have recently become a certified FRCms mobility specialist, I will teach you a full body CARs routine for you to perform everyday.
We will be offering these checkups all month long in August in the convenience of your own home. Weekdays, weekends and weeknight availability. If you are unable to make it in person, we have the option of performing your session over zoom/facetime.
Contact me if you're interested and to discuss pricing!
A week ago I became certified as a Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist, and one of the things I want to ask you is this - how many times in a day are you rotating each of your joints?
We flex and extend our joints all day long - all of them. But true mobility comes from how much a joint can rotate in a slow and controlled fashion. Why? Because each joint is a capsule - that capsule doesn’t receive enough blood flow on its own moving in just a linear fashion - which is where meniscus injuries, labral tears and herniated discs come from. Rotation of the joint is what improves blood flow.
Doing CARs every day (controlled articular rotations), not only improve your mobility, but also prevent arthritis, allow you to go deeper into a stretch, an exercise position, a yoga pose, or to improve sports performance. If you’re interested in learning how to perform CARs, let me know! And check out my instagram posts for some examples :)
It feels good when you’re holding a stretch, but the pain and tightness always returns. Even if you do it 3-4 times. You ever wonder why that is?
A lot of the research that told us to stretch for 30 seconds 3 times are over 20 years old. More current research is suggesting that in order to ACTIVELY lengthen a muscle and move into more range, the stretch needs to be held for up to 2 min. Seem long to you? Well, you’re already doing it 3 times in a row, so why not just hold it for a longer time period? Put in the work and your body will thank you.
